Care & Maintenance
Planting & Growing Timeline
- Planting begins: February 1st
- Special process: Larger pots (17", 15", 14") start in 4-inch containers, then transplanted after 3 weeks to develop stronger root systems
- Target bloom date: Mother's Day weekend
- Season length: Mother's Day through fall (with proper care)
What's Included
- Individual care tag for each plant variety
- Detailed care instructions on tags
- Sun/shade requirements clearly marked
- Proper drainage holes in all containers
Watering Guidelines
Size matters for watering frequency:
- Larger pots (17", 15", 14"): Hold more moisture, can go longer between waterings
- Smaller pots (12"): Dry out faster, need more frequent watering
- Weight check: Freshly watered pots are heavy; dry pots are much lighter and ready for water
- General rule: Check soil daily in hot weather; water when top 1-2 inches are dry
Deadheading & Maintenance
Deadheading encourages new blooms:
- Remove spent flowers on geraniums (entire flower stem)
- Pinch off faded blooms on petunias, calibrachoa
- Trim back most plants that get leggy or overgrown
Give plants a haircut:
- Don't be afraid to trim back overgrown or wild growth
- Cutting back encourages bushier, fuller plants
- Mid-season trimming keeps containers looking fresh
- Be advised trimming back may delay flowering by a few weeks
Drainage
- All pots have proper drainage holes
- Never let pots sit in standing water
- Ensure saucers are emptied after heavy rain
